Ishikawa – 29 January 2024
A powerful earthquake struck the Japan on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, causing widespread destruction, fires, and damage to infrastructure across several coastal towns.
The earthquake, which occurred at the beginning of the year, led to collapsed buildings, disrupted transportation networks, and power outages affecting thousands of residents. Emergency services were immediately deployed to search for survivors and assist injured civilians.
Japanese authorities issued tsunami warnings shortly after the quake, prompting evacuations in coastal areas. Rescue operations continued for days as teams worked to reach isolated communities and assess the full extent of the damage.
The government of Japan declared a state of emergency in the affected region and coordinated national relief efforts with international support agencies.
The disaster has been described as one of the most serious natural events to hit the country in recent years.
